Alec Baldwin is not having a good morning. He stopped by Starbucks this morning and then tweeted “Starbucks on 93 and B’way. Uptight Queen barrista [sic] named JAY has an attitude problem.,” He went on to tweet “Clyde, on the other hand, outside DINOSAUR BARBECUE @ W 125 n H River is MY MAN,” he tweeted. “Keeping the hickory ovens going, he is 2dayz Coolest NYer.” The New York Post was interested in this “barista incident” so they contacted the Starbucks in question only to find that no one by the name of JAY worked there. This goes to show that no one can function property until their morning dose of caffeine has kicked in!
Christie Haskell, blogger for Cafe Mom’s “The Stir” gives her seven year old son coffee first thing in the morning and follows it up with an extra dose later in the day. She revealed her “treatment” for her son’s ADHD on ABC News.
Mrs. Haskell claims that coffee keeps her son focused in the classroom and helps keep his behavioral issues in check. In short, she is using caffeine to treat his ADHD. She claims it works like a charm.
“He doesn’t overreact if we ask him to pick up Legos, rather than screaming and throwing himself on the floor,” Haskell told ABC. “And if we ask him to sit down and do homework, he can actually do it.”
Common symptoms of ADHD include inattentiveness, impulsivity and hyperactivity. A recent study released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that nearly one in 10 American children are diagnosed with ADHD. Traditionally this disorder is treated with Ritalin and behavior therapy. However as many as two-thirds of kids diagnosed with ADHD have used some form of alternative treatment, according to the NY Times.

Review in Coffee Makers on the Keurig Gourmet Single Cup Brewer - B40
I’ve tried several single cup coffee makers but actually have only managed to review two of them. One is actually considered a press while the other is a single cup brewing machine. I thought since I do have the Keurig Elite B40 sitting on the counter, I should review it.
Do I like it? Well, yes, I do but I have yet to find one that I want to tell you that I love and can’t do without. The main thing that I have a problem with is the coffee taste when I compare it with a full brewed pot in a different coffee maker. One should be able to love a single cup not just tolerate it. I exaggerate though. The difference is very small and only one who wants their coffee to sprout legs and walk on its own would notice that difference. It really is a bit more than tolerable. And with all the newest k-cups on the market, I am certain that you (and myself) can manage to find something to your liking.
Just considering the coffee maker its self, I do love it. It is simple to use and makes a cup quickly. I can have a fresh cup within a 30 seconds from start to finish with the water pre-heated and about 60 seconds if you have had the machine off and need to wait for the water to heat. And that is perfect if you are in a hurry thus making the taste tolerable. It is very simple to clean. Once brewing has stopped, you can just remove the k-cup and throw it away wiping up any liquid that has drip onto the drip pan. You’ll want to clean the k-cup holder from time to time.
The Keurig Elite B40 has 2 brew sizes: 9.25 oz. & 7.25 oz. and removable 48oz. water reservoir plus a removable drip tray. It weighs about 15 pounds full and runs on 1500 watts.
You can leave the machine plugged in in order to keep the water pre-heated. Been somewhat green-ish though, I do turn mine off for the most part. The only difference is you’ll have to wait a bit longer for the cup of coffee to brew. Also, there is the issue of those empty plastic k-cup empties. Those can add up over time but I am sure sooner or later I (or someone else) will figure out something useful for those. Not as bad as diapers I’d say.
The cost is affordable. About $99 through Keurig with a free 18 count k-cup package and FREE shipping or get about the same deal through Amazon (see image in review here)
I do recommend the Keurig Elite B40 and I wish you many single cups of coffee love. 🙂
I’ve been down for a while. You could read but I could not publish. After toil and trouble though, I’ve fixed it (on my own no less) and can now publish. I have a couple of pending reviews to publish (see links in upcoming reviews above) and then…. I am ‘yet again’ changing the layout. I am having a fit trying to find something functional yet satisfying for my theme. Plus, I need to upgrade my blog software. That could be a disaster. lol Hang in there! 🙂
Over at the great blog, Blogging with Cents they are having a really neat contest for a chance to win $50 payable through PayPal. It is a fill in the blank contest and I thought it would be a lot of fun. So…. Here is my entry:
It happened just about a month ago in Joe’s Big Double D Coffee Cup Cafe. I was just starting to sip on my One Size Fits All cup of coffee when I realized my cup was leaking on my shirt and could be seen. You have probably had that experience before. I felt embarrassed and obvious, and I knew that soon I would have to come up with some sort of explanation since I obviously was not pregnant. I was a little worried about that man standing behind me though. But then, all of the sudden, I saw the man’s hand coming right towards me!! I remembered what a cowboy’s wife had told me. It was very important to always hold your cup at arms distance and never spring a leak if you can avoid it. Before I knew it, I was given the tools and tips to coffee drinking for dummies by the man standing behind me. So you see, I really was at the right place at the right time, and I decided I just had to throw the rest of my coffee on the man who was standing behind me.
Thank you for the Contest! I hope I made you smile.
Thank you to all the participants for all their hard work and interesting entries. You had until the 18th of September to get your blog post entries in.
